Our story
Books on the Rise is a new indie bookshop offering diverse, multicultural books to both local and international readers. Situated on Hill Rise in Richmond, you can visit the bookshop and continue up the hill to see one of the best views in London, painted by Turner. The famous Richmond Deer Park is also at the top of the hill, one of the most biodiverse green spaces in southern England. Whilst in Richmond, you can also visit the statue of literary great, Virginia Woolf, (from November 16th) which we are proud to say was commissioned by the owners of Books on the Rise.
With a wide selection of new books, we also offer regular Literary events, both in the store and upstairs in our Literary Lounge. We welcome local book clubs, authors, publishers and businesses to work with us. Please contact the manager patrick@booksontherise.com to arrange this. We invite you to join our members’ subscription service for bespoke book orders and discounted offers.
What makes the people at Books on the Rise different is our long-term commitment to pluralistic publishing and widening the culture to include voices from the margins. Our team are also indie publishers, at Aurora Metro and Supernova Books with three decades of experience publishing both new and renowned authors. See more at www.aurorametro.com.
The campaign to create a statue of Virginia Woolf in Richmond was led by the bookshop owners, Cheryl and Steve Robson and volunteers at sister company, the charity Aurora Metro Arts and Media. To read more about the 5-year campaign to raise funds for the memorial, go to the charity page about the project.
