Penetration Film + Discussion

Watch the film then join playwright, Carolyn Lloyd Davies, in an on-line round table discussion to debate the issues raised in her 4 -star, critically acclaimed play Penetration, seen at the Cockpit Theatre in London last autumn .

Based on true events, the play follows the stories of Anna, a rape complainant, and Sean, the defendant, exploring the implications of consent, and focussing on the impact of toxic coercive relationships, the power of social media and the need for healthy sexual boundaries, especially when alcohol or drugs blur the lines.

The play deliberately takes no specific moral or legal standpoint, forcing you to question long-held beliefs and inherent prejudice. This socially provocative play is of particular significance in the light of recent shocking reports about the low incidence of convictions for rape and sexual assault in the UK.

About the Writer

Carolyn is the founder of Living the Drama (https://www.livingthedrama.co.uk) , and as a professional actor, playwright and experienced teacher, she brings a mix of knowledge and experience to all her projects. Working closely with her creative team, her role is to lead, manage and develop the company’s vision and ensure its values are upheld. Carolyn trained at the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts (ALRA) in London, and was a Trustee for seven years. She is on the Development Committee of Pegasus Theatre, Oxford, a thriving Performance Arts Centre for young people. She has written four full length plays (one with Stephanie Connell) plus two short screenplays, and two audio comedies. In 2016/17, she was attached to the Oxford Playhouse Playmaker scheme for a year, and has published over 30 articles.
